The Right Conductor for Each Connector
In 1974 the PUSH WIRE® connection revolutionized wiring in junction boxes and has, in the meantime, become the standard for electrical installations across all international borders! This termination technology is offered today as PUSH WIRE® connection and is implemented in the 243, 273 and 773 Series.
PUSH WIRE® Connection
PUSH WIRE® connections are mostly used for the wiring of solid conductors with cross sections ranging from 20 to 10 AWG (0.5mm² - 6mm²). Stripped conductors are simply pushed into the clamping unit until the stop and clamped automatically and safely. This is the fastest way to terminate stripped solid conductors.
Lighting is frequently connected to ceiling and wall outlets using flexible conductors. With the 224 Series featuring PUSH WIRE® connection on one side and CAGE CLAMP® on the other side, WAGO offers lighting connectors suited for terminating solid conductors with fine-stranded conductors.
CAGE CLAMP®
CAGE CLAMP® differs somewhat from the PUSH WIRE® connection. With CAGE CLAMP®, the clamp must be pressed together to open the clamping unit before inserting the conductor. The conductor can then be inserted and the clamp released to firmly close the connection. CAGE CLAMP® is suitable for solid, stranded and fine-stranded conductors.
However, using different types of conductors is not only required for lighting installation. Electrical installation also often requires that different types of conductors are connected with one another.
