Service and Maintenance with Transparency

Who thinks about service and maintenance when using process technology systems? Analog signal conditioners and isolation amplifiers are well established in process technology. In addition to galvanic isolation, they enable the simple and economical adaptation of measuring technology signals for further processing at the control level. Following a significant reduction in size to a 6 mm installation width and the use of DIP switches, it is, however, high time for additional innovations in their configuration. Why not consider an attachable display, PC software or a smartphone app? These could significantly support the commissioning, service and maintenance of the system technology.

WAGO Kontakttechnik GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Minden, accepted this challenge and designed multiple configurations for the JUMPFLEX® 857 and 2857 Series that provide a host of benefits including a high level of flexibility for the process technology. In addition to current market demands, WAGO’s ideas considered future uses.

The Classic: PC Software

Interface configuration software is available to parameterize and configure both JUMPFLEX® lines. Since the software is based on a simple office application, it does not place high demands on the hardware. After connecting the signal conditioner via the WAGO USB service cable, automatic module recognition is performed. The laborious search for the connected components in extensive product lists is a thing of the past. Configuration and commissioning are supported to such an extent that assembly times during the first installation are also reduced. Due to visualization of the process values, the software offers a significant advantage during comparing of measurement data for servicing. Input and output data from the signal conditioner are recorded and stored, along with the assigned installation location and name of the system part, providing an important contribution to system documentation and reporting.

Set Parameters Easily and Wirelessly

In the field, there is often no space on site by the control cabinet to safely place a laptop, presenting an additional challenged to the technician. This led to the idea of developing a wireless alternative. WAGO's pluggable Bluetooth® Adapters are already in use within the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM. So their use was expanded to include the JUMPFLEX® families. Communication with the laptop is performed via Bluetooth® by plugging the adapter into the service port of the 857 or 2857 Series Signal Conditioner. The interface configuration software can then be used without limitations. If the signal conditioners are installed in difficult-to-access points and the USB service cable is too short, the technician can simply insert the WAGO Bluetooth® Adapter into the service port and then comfortably work a short distance away.

Service To Go, Please!

WAGO's new JUMPFLEX®-ToGo App also functions wirelessly via Bluetooth®. Configuring the 857 and 2857 Series Signal Conditioners can be performed easily via smartphone or an Android tablet using this free app. Input and output parameters can be processed and configuration data or actual measured values can be graphically displayed at your fingertips. WAGO’s Bluetooth® Adapter establishes communication between the signal conditioner and the mobile end user device. Although using smartphones and tablets is progressive, it is also strictly prohibited in many process control applications. This is why WAGO developed a mountable configuration display for the 2857 Series.

Pocket-Sized Configuration Display

Users can record measurement data from the signal conditioners and isolation amplifiers using the removable display to substantially reduce servicing and commissioning times. Because the display fits every device type within the 2857 Series, purchasing costs remain manageable. At the same time, the small design and uniform operation remain indispensable for technicians working on process control systems – a pocket-sized multitalent.

Flexible and Easy to Operate

The JUMPFLEX® 2857 Series offers additional advantages for installation, maintenance and the service of process control applications. For fast installation, jumpers can be used instead of discrete wiring. At the same time, the field connections are pluggable, which becomes a significant advantage when servicing or while replacing the sensor. An additional safety aspect was implemented through the sealing option, which prevents improper changes to the signal conditioner. If changes occur, they will be quickly recognized. With the 857 and 2857 Series JUMPFLEX® Isolation Amplifiers and Signal Conditioners, WAGO maximizes flexibility and usability for commissioning, maintenance and service via advanced features and freely selectable configuration options.
