La réglementation en matière de protection contre les explosions en Europe est basée sur les lignes directrices ATEX, rendues publiques en 1994 sous la forme de la directive 94/9/CE et applicables depuis 2014 dans une nouvelle version sous le nom 2014/34/UE. Cette directive couvre les dispositifs et les systèmes de protection destinés à être utilisés dans des emplacements dangereux.

Directive 2014/34/UE – Réglementation des obligations des fabricants

Conformément à l'annexe 1 de la directive 2014/34/UE, le fabricant doit répartir les équipements susceptibles de présenter des risques d'inflammation (sources d'inflammation) et de provoquer une explosion en groupes et catégories de dispositifs. Pour ces équipements, un essai de type Ex et une certification doivent être effectués par l'un des bureaux d'essai désignés. Si le dispositif satisfait aux exigences de l'essai de type, la base du marquage CE est établie avec la déclaration de conformité CE. L'équipement doit être accompagné d'un mode d'emploi dans lequel son utilisation correcte est définie.
