Helpful Tip – Control Cabinet Manufacturing

Meet your new little helpers for the day-to-day business of control cabinet manufacturing. Explore our helpful tips! How the WAGO I/O System 750 becomes the interface master in your control cabinet is explained by Product Manager Manfred Kühme in our latest video.

The System for Every Application

Boasting more than 500 I/O modules, programmable controllers and fieldbus couplers, WAGO’s I/O System offers all the functions required for your automation needs – and every fieldbus. The remote I/O System is the decentralized peripheral for automation technology. The tool-free wiring is intuitive for worldwide use, and the lever ensures that the contact point is always securely closed. The optional pluggable connection for the 753 Series minimizes both hardware and system expenses.

The Modular, Compact System for Control Cabinets

The WAGO I/O System 750/753 enables you not only to reduce wiring expenses but also prevent unplanned downtimes and associated service costs thanks to superior reliability. The system also offers additional impressive features: Besides the possibility of custom configurations, I/O modules are available with up to 16 channels to maximize the use of valuable control cabinet space. Additionally, WAGO’s 753 Series Pluggable Connectors expedite on-site installation.

Maximum Reliability and Ruggedness

The WAGO I/O System 750/753 is engineered and tested for use in the most demanding environments, such as required in shipbuilding. Besides greatly increased vibration resistance, significantly greater immunity to interference and a wide voltage fluctuation range, CAGE CLAMP® spring pressure connections also ensure continuous operation.

Maximum Fieldbus Independence

Fieldbus couplers connect the WAGO I/O System 750/753 to a higher-level control system and support all standard fieldbus protocols and ETHERNET standards. The parts of the I/O system are perfectly attuned to each other for integration into the scalable control solutions of the 750 Series Controllers, PFC100 Controllers and PFC200 Controllers. The e!COCKPIT (CODESYS 3) and WAGO I/O-PRO (based on CODESYS 2) engineering environments are available for configuration, programming, diagnostics and visualization.

Maximum Flexibility

More than 500 different I/O modules with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 channels for digital and analog input/output signals are available to meet the wide range of requirements found in different industries, including function blocks and technology modules, modules for Ex i applications, RS-232 interfaces for functional safety and much more. Communication modules also make it possible to integrate subsystems and interfaces such as KNX, DALI and AS Interface.

New Products

Same Width, More Channels

A new module for pulse width modulation (PWM) offers greater flexibility and allows more applications.

The new 4-channel pulse width modulation module for the WAGO I/O System 750 is only 12 mm wide, but can control up to four channels and switch between five operating modes. That opens up more possible applications – especially for instrument and control engineering users – saves space and reduces costs. The module also offers a current carrying capacity of 0.2 A per channel, which can be increased to 0.4 A through parallel connection, and a switching frequency up to 20 kHz. Flexible switching between operating modes is possible, for instance between a variable duty cycle and variable frequency. That way, the same module can be used for different kinds of PWM control. For example, in heating control, the new PWM module allows precise readjustment instead of just two-point control. As an XTR version for extreme environments (750-677/040-000), the module can also meet more challenging requirements, such as extreme temperature resistance, increased dielectric strength and high vibration and shock resistance.

The Benefits for You:

  • Four channels in a width of only 12 mm (0.472 inch)
  • Current carrying capacity up to 0.2 A per channel; switching frequency up to 20 kHz
  • Adjustable operating modes for a wide variety of applications

Easy Integration of EnOcean® Sensors and Actuators

New RS-485 Gateway from WAGO

The EnOcean® wireless sensor protocol has established itself as the standard in the building industry, above all because it allows use of battery-free sensors and control elements – for example, in room automation, lighting systems and many other applications. The energy for wireless transmission is usually generated via energy harvesting. WAGO is now launching an EnOcean® gateway that can be connected easily to the WAGO I/O System 750 via a serial interface, with either a serial module of the WAGO I/O System or a controller with an integrated serial interface. The use of standard protocols like Modbus® and ESP-3 simplifies bidirectional communication between the I/O System and the EnOcean® modules. Serial transfer also allows long cable lengths so that the gateway can be installed far from the I/O System. This convenience is especially important when the engineering room that houses the controller and I/O System is located at a distance. The intelligent design also permits mounting in a visible location, such as on a wall or ceiling.

Your Benefits:

  • Easy EnOcean® connection to the WAGO I/O System 750
  • Attractive design for visible wall or ceiling mounting
  • Installation possible at a significant distance from the WAGO I/O System

Connect Eight Thermocouples in 12 mm

New Analog Input Module for Thermocouple Measurement

The new 750-498 Analog Input Module is ideal for recording signals from multiple thermocouples in the field. Packaged in a width of just 12 mm, it offers eight channels that can be individually configured for thermocouples of types K, J, B, E, N, R, S, T and C. The thermocouples are connected via 2-wire technology. The I/O module performs cold junction compensation and then directly outputs the measured temperature value. The temperature resolution is 0.1 °C. The module can also be used for voltage measurements in the ±30 mV, ±60 mV, ±120 mV and ±240 mV ranges. The field level and system level are electrically isolated from one another.

The Benefits for You:

  • Slim design
  • Internal cold junction compensation
  • Low measurement error ≤ 1 K (depending on type and temperature range)

More Freedom in Ex Applications
(750-439/040-000 and 750-489)

WAGO’s intrinsically safe modules offer improved features and new functions.

WAGO has streamlined and expanded its range of Ex i modules. The new WAGO 8-Channel Digital Input Module (750-439/040-000) for intrinsically safe digital applications (8DI NAMUR Ex i) can now also connect break contacts and their signals along with NAMUR make contacts. Furthermore, the new module can record them in accordance with the IEC 60947-5-6 standard. Because they can be used to detect typical sensor failures such as wire breaks, break contacts’ role in process technology is increasingly important. NAMUR make or break contacts are defined channel by channel via the process image for 8DI NAMUR Ex i.

WAGO's new 4-Channel Analog Input Module (4AI RTD/TC/Strain Gauge Ex i; 750-489) complements the analog portion of WAGO’s portfolio. It combines the functionality of proven modules with enhanced characteristics. The module offers twice the channels, which are now electrically isolated. It also provides higher resolution, faster conversion time, fewer measurement errors and the combination of RTD and TC functions in one module. Among the new module’s advantages: Signals of resistor bridges (e.g., strain gauges) from hazardous areas in zones 0 and 1 can now be measured directly.

Your Benefits:

  • More applications and reliable wire break diagnostics with 8DI NAMUR Ex i
  • 4AI RTD/TC/Strain Gauge Ex i processes signals safely, quickly and without errors, acquires measured values precisely and requires only a small amount of space.
