From start to finish – watching the control cabinet grow.

Germany, 1973: 28-year-old Kurt Hörburger enjoys cycling on the highway, going for walks and much more. While doing so, he has a vision – a company of his own, devoted to the goal of managing the various building systems with a single system, for optimal space conditions, maximum resource utilization and, finally, economical building operation. More than 40 years later, around 200 employees at Hörburger AG work on allowing buildings and equipment to be used and operated even more efficiently while conserving resources. WAGO’s new TOPJOB® S Rail-Mount Terminal Blocks with levers play a crucial role in this.

Intelligent Building and Plant Automation

Waltenhofen 2018: More than 40 years after the company was established in 1974, the enormous building complex of Hörburger AG – one of the leaders in building automation, control cabinet manufacturing and retail facility management – still cuts an impressive figure. Quite a bit has changed here in recent years: The technical requirements are becoming stricter, processes have become significantly more complex, and finding skilled machinists is getting more and more difficult. One person who has always been deeply familiar with all this is Christian Hörburger, CEO of Hörburger AG, which is headquartered in Waltenhofen.

“At Hörburger, we’re with you from the very beginning: in the engineering office, during quote preparation, planning and programming, all the way to commissioning the system, and even for service and maintenance, if necessary. To offer these services, we need a lot of room,” says Hörburger, gesturing at the company’s large premises behind him.

This large building also symbolizes the growing challenges: The interfaces are becoming increasingly difficult, and there is no longer a uniform standard for small or large projects. “But that makes it more exciting,” says Hörburger. In WAGO, the company has found an excellent partner to support it through these challenges. “The requirements of industrial customers who want to automate their plants or office buildings are becoming more and more challenging,” says Hörburger. This is true of their customer KUKA, one of the world’s leading suppliers of intelligent automation solutions. KUKA performs extensive tests in environmental chambers for robots daily – tricky technical questions are the order of the day. The solution: WAGO’s new TOPJOB® S Rail-Mount Terminal Blocks with levers.

The solution: WAGO’s new TOPJOB® S Rail-Mount Terminal Blocks with levers.

  • All conductor types can be connected and disconnected easily and intuitively by hand.

  • The lever engages and keeps the clamping point open with no force applied, freeing hands for wiring.

  • The lever’s position clearly signals whether the clamping point is open or closed.

  • Even difficult-to-bend conductors are easily connected through the side conductor entry.

WAGO is an excellent partner for us – always up to date on the latest technology and always available for tricky technical questions.

Always up to Date on the Latest Technology

“WAGO is an excellent partner for us – always up to date on the latest technology and always available for tricky technical questions,” says Hörburger. For KUKA, Hörburger is installing WAGO’s new TOPJOB® S Rail-Mount Terminal Blocks with levers in the control cabinet for cooling. KUKA tests the environmental conditions surrounding the robot.

“Easy, tool-free and practical” is the summary of the advantages of the new rail-mount terminal blocks offered by Michael Skarke, who works in production management at Hörburger. Skarke organizes a wide variety of activities in the production department: from materials planning, to testing the control cabinet in the workshop, to coordinating the delivery deadlines with the project managers.

Tool-Free at the Construction Site

Using the new WAGO rail-mount terminal block allows quick connection and re-connection without tools, even during troubleshooting, for example. “Installers no longer need to apply force to tighten screws. All in all, a terrific system,” says Skarke in summary. Skarke is especially fascinated by watching the control cabinet “grow” from the earliest stage on. When the heating or ventilation works in the desired controller at the end, he is very satisfied with his work. And for him, one thing is for certain: “The TOPJOB® S Rail-Mount Terminal Blocks with levers make control cabinet work easier by allowing tool-free connection at the construction site.” In any case, there will be no lack of excitement for Hörburger and his team – every day, new challenges, technologies and competitors offer the opportunity to explore new avenues. “Because we can only see so far into the future,” concludes Hörburger
