Applying Explosion Protection in Automation Technology

Use the WAGO I/O System 750 and 750 XTR to make machines and systems more efficient and safer in atmospheres that are subject to explosion – and do so safely, reliably and economically. The modules within the WAGO I/O System 750 and 750 XTR are designed for use in both non-hazardous and hazardous areas. When used in Zone 2/22 hazardous areas, the I/O System 750 offers safe, easy and economical connection to the sensors/actuators of Zones 0/20 and 1/21. The “blue” Ex i I/O modules were specially developed for this purpose. As defined in the 60079-11 standard, an intrinsically safe circuit is a circuit in which any spark or any thermal effect produced under specific conditions, which include normal operation and specified fault conditions, is not capable of causing ignition of a given explosive atmosphere.

Intrinsically safe electrical equipment is electrical equipment in which all the circuits are intrinsically safe.
In practice, the concept of intrinsic safety is based on ensuring that the energy released from the circuit as a result of defined faults (including short circuits and breaks) in the form of an electric spark does not lead to the ignition of a specified explosive atmosphere.
