Application-Based Controller Redundancy

WAGO’s Application-based Controller Redundancy system offers users a reliable and cost-effective system that helps increase system availability in applications such as alarm and monitoring, lighting and climate control applications. The solution is designed as an SPOF-tolerant system (Single Point of Failure), meaning that if any fault that occurs such as a loss of power, or loss of LAN connection, the system will continue to operate.

Why use WAGO?

  • With WAGO's ACR system, control is transferred to a secondary controller if the master is affected by a fault.
  • Smart Couplers communicate with redundant controllers using dual Ethernet cables or a Ring topology.
  • Redundant power supplies and Ethernet switches may be used in parallel with the ACR to further system availability.

PFC200 Application Controller

The Application-based Controller Redundancy system is based on the PFC200 controller with part number 750-8212. Users can leverage the features of WAGO's e!COCKPIT to program their applications. WAGO has pre-engineered the software-based redundancy library (WAGOAppRedundancyPLC) that manages the communications between the two redundant controllers. Digital and analog I/O can be used with the master/standby PLCs.

Smart Coupler

The WAGO Smart Coupler is used as remote, distributed I/O in the WAGO ACR application. The master PLC monitors and controls the I/O on the Smart Coupler. If there is a switch over the master PLC, new master will control the Smart Coupler. A microSD card with the Smart Coupler application enables users to add distributed I/O without any configuration of the remote nodes. Up to 36 digital or analog I/O modules can be used in conjunction with the Smart Coupler. The redundant controllers can manage up to six Smart Couplers.
