At its new logistics center in Sondershausen, WAGO showcases how fossil-free energy supply can become a reality — without compromising user comfort. From the outset, the building was designed with an energy-efficient concept that seamlessly integrates power generation, building systems, heat storage, hydraulics and smart control technology. Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Intelligent Energy Concepts

WAGO developed and implemented the energy concept in close cooperation with EE.Concept, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, Lübbing Elektrotechnik and Zortea. Together, they analyzed and simulated a wide range of renewable energy sources — from photovoltaics and geothermal energy to battery storage systems. The results show that avoiding fossil fuels is not only feasible but also economically sound.

Hydraulics and Monitoring Are Key to Efficiency and Operational Reliability

A central element of the energy concept is Zortström hydraulics, which uses temperature stratification to ensure stable and efficient supply across all building areas. WAGO’s open interface architecture enables intelligent networking of all components and supports precise energy flow control. Comprehensive technical monitoring ensures the continuous optimization of energy flows, creating a system that operates efficiently while contributing to long-term CO₂ reduction and greater operational reliability.

High-performance, flexible automation technology is at the core of technical implementation. It enables intelligent control of all energy flows — from single-room control with WAGO flexROOM^®, to charging management for eMobility, to energy data acquisition and lighting control. Thanks to the open interface architecture, external components can be easily integrated. WAGO controllers handle both control and continuous analysis and optimization, creating a holistic system that combines efficiency, transparency and future-readiness.
