Sustainable Construction with Pluggable Building Installation at Bravida’s Headquarters

For the installation of the lighting, Bravida relies on pluggable electrical installation for the new construction of its headquarters – and thus saves time.

Pluggable connections save installation time and allow buildings to be used more flexibly and sustainably. WAGO's customer Bravida A/S, an installation company from Denmark, also benefit from these advantages. Indeed, pluggable electrical installation helps avoid construction delays and downtimes because detailed planning saves time at the construction site later. Allan Vinding, Project Manager at Bravida, summarizes this advantage as follows: “When we are under pressure in the final phase of a construction project, it is reassuring to know that we only need to install pluggable lamps. We always set realistic deadlines for the final assembly of various electrical components in our work's schedule; however, when it comes to pluggable connections, things usually get a bit faster, even if we still have to install sensors and outlets in a conventional way.”

400 lamps with one click

Bravida provides electricity, heating, cooling, water, ventilation and security for Danish construction projects. Now, the Bravida Group also had the pleasure of being an installer on a project that included pluggable connections: In Brabrand near Aarhus, Bravida put the finishing touches to its new headquarters for North Jutland. The office building, which covers around 5,000 square meters, was equipped with 500 lamps, 400 of which were installed in main rooms, such as offices and common rooms with pluggable connections. This was done in collaboration with WAGO.

Optimal Thanks to Modular Recurring Installation

“Pluggable connections are a ready-made type of electrical installation. Instead of the conventional way of cutting cables and making lamp connections, you use ready-made modules of the correct length that are clicked together,” explains Henrik Scharf, Project Manager at WAGO Denmark, who is responsible for the WINSTA® Pluggable Connection System.

The system is based on cable assemblies and standard components, which are assembled according to the construction project. WINSTA® is suitable where installation requirements repeat and rooms have a similar structure, e.g., for lighting or cable duct installations, in an office building. “By using this complete connection system, both the installation time and installation errors can be minimized on site because the individual components are both mechanically and color-coded. This virtually prevents mismating.”

Points on the DGNB Account

This saves time and money and makes construction more flexible, which is crucial if the building is to be certified according to the DGNB system for environmental, economic and social sustainability. “It’s a lot faster, and that’s more economical. At the same time, the building receives DGNB points, since it will have greater flexibility for later changes and expansions,” says Henrik Scharf.

DGNB was a tender criterion of Bravida as the customer for WAGO. According to Allan Vinding, Bravida has also seen a significant increase in DGNB buildings, in which pluggable connections are specified and required for installation.

Plannable and Clearly Organized

In collaboration with WAGO, it was also a great advantage for Bravida that WAGO not only provides pluggable connections, but also a detailed plan for what materials should be delivered and how the installation should be performed.

“The planning and drawing work carried out by WAGO, as well as the parts lists provided by WAGO, were of great help. When we hire an electrician to perform an installation, it is nice that the process is described in detail at the drawing level and we can see which cable lengths need to be used where. If we know exactly which conductor types and WINSTA® components are used on a specific floor, we have better control over our logistics processes. This transparency also means that an installer seldom makes mistakes. The whole thing is faster, and you can perform maintenance more quickly later without affecting operation.”

Important Documentation

The drawings provide a clear overview of the overall installation at any time: “We can easily recognize how the entire system is structured, and this is important today when we have to provide a lot of documentation. The drawings follow the construction and not only help the individual electrician, who is called in 10 years later to repair an installation. You also have the documentation you require if you need to make additions, extensions and changes on a larger scale later,” says Allan Vinding.
