Interview

Production Coordinator Patrick Mund

In this interview, Patrick Mund tells us how he went from a trainee position to management, what he does in his day-to-day activities as a production coordinator and how his coworkers motivate him every day.

What does your career path look like at WAGO?

In September 2011, I began my training as a machine and system operator in the Metal/Rubber Department and completed it in 2013. I then worked in manual assembly for about a year before switching to the WINSTA® Department as a cable assembly setter. The in-service training to become a master craftsman in metalworking subsequently enabled me to take up the position of deputy shift supervisor and then shift supervisor. Since the end of last year, I have worked as a manufacturing coordinator in WINSTA® Production, and I have studied part-time at a university.

Why did you choose WAGO as your employer?

When I began my apprenticeship at WAGO at the age of 17, I had heard a lot of good things about the company and completed a few internships. My personal development has always been the first priority. Thanks to WAGO and, above all, to the support of many colleagues over the years, I remain optimistic about the future.

What does a normal work day look like for you?

My day-to-day work is very varied:

  • Support for Shift Management/Production Management WINSTA®
  • Support for projects, e.g., (MF.000576 Relocation Poland) from the perspective of production
  • Coordination of Production/Personnel
  • Interdepartmental communication

What excites you about your work?

I like the versatility, the opportunity to independently make decisions and take responsibility, to develop as a team and to view changes positively. The attitude to work and life, the ambition and the confident and goal-oriented manner of many colleagues motivate me to work on myself every day.

What is the funniest event at WAGO that you can remember?

There have been many eventful moments in the team at WAGO over the years.

I like to remember the situation when I told my colleague that I wanted to get a new pair of glasses. She said that she had bought her last new pair of glasses about a year ago and lost them at work a short time later. With humor, she said she had given up looking, “Who knows what box my glasses left the country in?”

A few weeks later we had night shift, I was loading and sorting trays on a line. The boxes were very dusty, while searching I found a pair of glasses in one of the lower boxes. I had to grin immediately and could match the glasses.

The joy of the lost glasses as well as the way meant lots of laughs.

What is your personal WAGO moment of success?

Overall, the last two years have been very intense and memorable. In some cases, the situations were anything but easy (pandemic). But the way that WAGO and our colleagues handled the challenges was impressive.

Interrupted down to my department, it was, in retrospect, an insane treasure trove of experience for me.

With our new position in management, with constant changes, staff turnover, high order intake, as well as the information of WINSTA® relocation to Poland in the next three years, we managed as a department to overcome the challenges.
